Rachel Hislop is a communications, content, and brand executive.

Rachel Hislop is a communications, content, and brand executive with more than fifteen years of experience helping cultural institutions, artists, media companies, and advocacy organizations understand their audiences and tell stories that move people.

She currently serves as Chief Communications and Content Officer at the Whitney Museum of American Art, where she leads the Museum’s communications, digital content, and creative teams. Her work spans institutional narrative, audience and brand strategy, major cultural launches, executive communications, and reputation management.

Before joining the Whitney, Hislop led communications and engagement at Campaign Zero, where she translated complex research, policy, and advocacy positions for broad public audiences.

Earlier in her career, Hislop served as Vice President of Content and Editor-in-Chief of Okayplayer and OkayAfrica, two of the most influential platforms covering Black music and culture around the world. She reshaped the editorial and audience strategy across both brands.

At Parkwood Entertainment, Hislop led digital content strategy for Beyoncé Knowles-Carter during some of the artist’s most significant releases and tours, including the self-titled visual album, Lemonade, The Formation World Tour, and On the Run Tour. Her work helped grow Beyoncé’s digital presence into one of the largest and most engaged artist audiences in the world.

Hislop began her career as a journalist and editor, writing for publications including NYLON, Global Grind, and Refinery29. That editorial foundation continues to shape how she approaches communications, with a focus on understanding what audiences care about, making complicated ideas clear, and creating work that earns attention rather than simply demanding it.

In 2023, Mozilla named Hislop one of its Rise 25 honorees shaping the future of the internet for her contributions to inclusive storytelling, audience engagement, and digital innovation. She has spoken and moderated conversations at Instagram, Google, Global Citizen, Adweek, and Stanford University, and remains committed to mentoring the next generation of writers, editors, and communications leaders. Across every part of her career, her guiding principle has remained the same. People are always the point.
